When I built TechFootprint.io, the goal was to make it easy to see where your cloud money goes and what impact it has on your carbon footprint. Over time, the charts and filters have made that picture clearer but the next logical step was to help you act on it.

That’s where the new Next Best Action feature comes in.

It automatically analyses your AWS data and recommends the most valuable things you can do right now to save money and reduce emissions. Instead of leaving you to interpret charts and spreadsheets, it translates all that information into clear, ranked suggestions.

Each recommendation shows the potential cost saving, carbon reduction, and confidence level, so you know both the size of the prize and how certain the model is about it. You can open any recommendation to see the detail; which services are driving the cost or emissions, how the estimate was calculated, and what impact you can expect.

In the examples above, the system has highlighted that workloads in us-east-1 are running in a high-carbon region. It suggests migrating to lower-carbon alternatives like eu-north-1 or us-west-2, with an estimated reduction of 451 kg of CO₂ per month. Another insight flags an underutilised load balancer processing fewer than ten requests per hour, showing the potential monthly savings and environmental impact if it were consolidated or replaced.

Every suggestion is scored for effort level, confidence, and estimated impact, helping you focus on the quick wins before tackling larger structural optimisations. You can view the supporting data, mark items as reviewed, or dismiss them once complete.

This is a Premium-only feature and marks the first step toward a more proactive TechFootprint.io. Over time the recommendation engine will adapt to your usage patterns, learn which suggestions you act on, and expand to include Azure and GCP.
