got a mention on e
d brill’s
weblog yesterday for a story i noticed in the times.
microsoft are extremely good at conveniently ignoring the capabilities of other
software. this particular story was talking about the recent virus attacks and
how stopping them will require a “complete redesign of the personal computer”.
notes has had execution control lists which
restrict the access of code on the users machine for years now and you do not
find these virus’ affecting notes users generally.

Microsoft have been doing that for years. Remember the big thing they made of Win95 and its “multitasking” capability. OS2 had been doing that for years. The irony there of course is that Microsoft co-developed OS2 with IBM in the beginning (that is a story for another time) so you would think they would know that.
