Today is the last day of Anglia
Railways demonic possession of the railway which I use daily. The new
Greater Anglia Franchise is going to be run by Natio
nal Express. I am hoping (probably in vain) that things will improve, at
least they hav epromised to upgrade the rolling stock on the intercity
services. As with all things on the trains I would guess that it will take a
year or two for anything to change but at least I have someone new to moan
at!
On the same lines, an article
in The Times this morning
caught my attention. Punctuality is going to be recorded by the average number
of seconds delayed rather than a percentage of trains running on time.
Apparently in Japan the bullet train runs with an average 12 second delay
whereas some lines in the UK have a 7 and a half minute delay. It’s so bad it’s
embarassing.
