dynamic

i spent a bit of time at the weekend making one of my home servers visible to
the internet. i had always shied away from doing this as much because of the
admin work involved as anything else but i have a couple of requirements to
make server changes that would not be allowed by my current host.

it was all surprisingly easy. the potential issue of dynamic ip addressing
assigned by my adsl provider was fixed
by using dynu, one of the many dynamic
domain hosts. so what happens now is that if you go to www.fynnconsulting.co.uk you get
redirected to www.fcl.dynu.net which has
the most recent ip address from my home server.

over the next few days and weeks i will transfer some of the databases hosted
by eapps to see if the adsl line can handle the volumes of requests. judging by
my testing, though, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
