I upgraded my dev server the other day, all went swimmingly it seemed. That is until this morning when I needed to do some work on an application which uses some slightly non standard Java.
Part of the non standard-ness is that I had previously made changes to the java.policy file in the file system. So just a small reminder really, that these files get overwritten when the server gets upgraded, so bear it in mind if you have modified the files that you should make a backup of them before commencing the upgrade.
The same kind of problem is with Designer, if you have altered <Notes-dir>\framework\rcp\deploy\jvm.properties prior to upgrade, do it again 🙂
This is basically true for any files that Domino has default versions of. When upgrading it usually doesn’t care if a file has been modified since install or not. There was an example from R5 that was commented on notes.net way back, where the newly introduced favicon.ico just replaced custom favicon.ico files that people had placed there. As far as I know, there’s no difference today.
Re: jvm.properties:
If operating in a locked down environment, <datadir>/workspace/.config/rcpinstall.properties overrides jvm.properties and is modifiable by a user…

The java.pol flle should not get overwritten if i am understanding it orrectly.
