taupo

headed south today to see the lady know geyser which erupts every day at 10:15
(with a little help from some soap). continued down to taupo which is a small
town on lake taupo, the largest lake in new zealand. the weather was as close
to perfect as could be hoped for.

on the way back up to rotorua, i spotted a sign pointing to hidden valley. with
a bit of time to spare i headed down a very small road for about 20km. at the
end was, indeed, a very well hidden valley with a stream feeding into a small
lake. the stream was running over a huge exposed volcanic rock with steps cut
into it. very beautiful, so i sat on the grass reading for an hour or two with
a cold drink and an ice cream.

heading back up to auckland tomorrow before flying to sydney on wednesday.
