Hampshire

Another weekend, another trip. This time down to Hampshire on the south coast. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best but I still managed to get a look around both Portsmouth and Southampton. Not knowing either city it was interesting to see them both apparently in a huge state of upheaval. There is a lot of building, reconstuction and development going on in the form of new flats but also enhancing the tourist side of things.

Portsmouth is the home of HMS Victory and the Mary Rose at the Historic Dockyard and is well worth a visit if you are down that way. Victory was Nelsons flagship during the battle of Trafalgar and where he died. You’re allowed onto the ship which is really very interesting, as long as you manage not to bang your head on the low beams. They were not designed for anyone over 5’5″ tall. The Mary Rose was raised from the bed of the Solent in 1982 and is still undergoing the preservation process which will allow it to survive. Again very interesting and hugely impressive to have got it up in such good condition after being under the sea for centuries.

Hampshire is going to go onto my list of counties to spend more time looking at, I imagine it’s really good during the summer.

Server Downtime

The server which runs this, 50WordReview and JSTips.net crashed at around 11:30 last night. The perils of running a beta server I’m afraid so please bear with me.

Looking at the logs I can’t see a huge amount wrong with the server, it appears that an agent was trying to run an evaluate statement which caused the server to crash, but that agent runs several times a day so I can’t see why this particular run should crash. Anyway I have turned up logging to see what happens over the next few days.

Who should you vote for?

I am not going to get into the election in a big way here, it is too divisive with friends and family (you know who you are!) but this is a good site which covers most of the issues, asks your opinions on them and then ties you to one of the four main parties.

Shameless Experiment

Having seen this site about Google Adsense I thought I would see what the effect is of including some of the top paying phrases. The question you have to ask is why “peritoneal mesothelioma” should be popular, or indeed what it even means. You also have to feel sorry for people who are reduced to searching for “criminal lawyer new york ” or “san diego dui lawyer “. If you have come here looking for some legal help then there isn’t much I can do for you. I do know a solicitor (hello Simon!) but not sure his speciality will be much help to you.

If this makes no sense to you then please ignore it and carry on with your normal business!

Server upgrade

I finally got around to upgrading this server to Domino 7 Beta 3. All seemed to go remarkably smoothly.

Winner on the National

It was the Grand National today and I got my usual donkey in the sweepstake but realising that it had absolutely no chance of winning I thought I would place a realistic bet as well and so a fiver each way on Hedge Hunter has just paid me back £60. A very nice return for absolutely no knowledge about horses!
