Big day all round

Yesterday was a good day.

First, and best, of all London won the right to stage the 2012 Olympics. It isn’t often that people in this country genuinely get excited by something en masse, but when I popped out for lunch just after the announcement it was all you could hear – people talking into their mobiles or to each other saying what good news it was. Obviously made all the sweeter because it was the French that we beat in the final run off.

I would imagine that there will be nay-sayers crawling out of the woodwork pretty quickly but hopefully we will prove them wrong and stage a great games. The only downside to all this is that my train line runs right past Stratford, where the main Olympic site will be so I guess it will provide a prime excuse for the next seven years when there are delays!

Last night there was a coporate party hosted by the company I am contracting for at the Namco Station in County Hall on the south bank of the Thames last night. This is one of those posh amusement arcades with a bar where all the games are set to free play. Luckily so was the beer (and not so luckily so was the tequila) so there will be a few sore heads this morning. Still it was a good night.
